IPG Automotive Korea continues their support of the Hyundai Motor Group Autonomous Challenge

For several years, our colleagues in the Korean region have been involved in supporting the Hyundai Motor Group Autonomous Challenge. Hosted by HMG since 1995, the contest for Korean university teams encourages creative ideas for the future of automotive technology. It allows university teams to put their ideas into practice by building a virtual vehicle with an autonomous software-stack using a complimentary CarMaker license. IPG Automotive Korea supported the students with access to a variety of workshops and ensured all their questions were answered by the experts from IPG Automotive!

19 student teams from 15 universities entered the preliminary competition from May 10 to 12 to present the autonomous driving functions that they had developed virtually. The teams had to prove that they could manoeuver around a course including other traffic and were ranked by their best lap times. The top 9 teams then advanced to the final which took place at the KSAE 2023 Annual Spring Conference on May 24. The students used a Hyundai IONIQ5 for the virtual competition having the opportunity to choose from pre-configured lidar and camera sensors. The track was designed to be challenging with speed limits, overtaking sections and penalties but the students really accepted the challenge and performed excellently in the competition. By providing licenses, we ensure that the future experts in vehicle design and development are using CarMaker from the very start of their journey. The SAVE team from the Sungkyunkwan University won the overall virtual challenge.  Congratulations!
