Troubleshooting: License errors

Question

I can't start the software because I keep getting a license error!

Solution

There are several license errors that can occur and each of them can have a different cause. The exact wording of the pop-up can help us fiqure out which kind or problem we're dealing with and in most cases, a few simple steps that you can go through yourself will already help solve the issue. Here are a few typical errors and the steps we reccommend for debugging:

"License error: license file not found"

  • Make sure the license file is saved to the IPG/etc folder of your installation directory.
  • Confirm that you only have one single installation directory IPG and that you haven't made any changes to it's file structure.
  • Make sure the license file is called "Licenses" without a file ending.
  • Admin rights (or at least specific read/write rights) on the license file are available?
  • In case of floating licenses: Be sure that you can contact the server and that the server's license file "Licenses" is also correctly saved to the IPG/etc folder.

"License Error: No valid license"

  • The error message shows the MAC address required to verify your hardware. Compare it to the one in the license file, is it the same?
  • Does your license file have an expiry date that's been reached?
  • Are you trying to open a valid software version? Note that licenses are downwards compatible but not valid for newer versions.
  • Make sure that you haven't defined any "User restrictions" keeping you from checking out a license.

"License Error: date confusion (de-xxxxx-xxxxx)"

  • This happens when the expiration date or date on your PC have been changed. Make sure these are both set back to their proper values.
  • Send an e-mail to Support@ipg-automotive.com with your name, license number and a screenshot os the error code. You'll receive a reset code to reactivate your license.

"License Error: cannot contact license server"

  • Have a loook at your license file "Licenses". This should contain just one line saying "server ". Make sure the name is spelled correctly, it could help to use the fully qualified host name instead.
  • Try pinging your server by typing "ping in a command line and make sure you can contact the designated server.
  • Check to make sure that the IPGLock application is properly installed and running on the server.
