Modelclass-specific Parameters. What are they used for?

Question

I would like to implement my own user-defined model. After I have selected my model in the Vehicle Data Set via the Model Manager, a button "Modelclass-specific Parameters" appears. What are these parameters used for?

Solution

Modelclass-specific Parameters are constant parameters which are mostly needed in other CarMaker modules and are not only/not always relevant within the model itself. Depending on which models and/or effects you consider, not all of them are needed, but unfortunately it is not possible to make generalized statements, where the parameters have an influence.

If the Modelclass-specific Parameters are not configured by the user, the simulation might be unable to start and will throw some error messages like in the picture below.

Here are a few examples to give a rough idea why Modelclass-specific Parameters are needed:

  • The number of the forward gears and the kind of the clutch are required when implementing a user-defined gearbox model so that the IPGDriver knows how often he can shift and whether there is a manual clutch he needs to operate..
  • The mass of the electric motor is irrelevant for the electric motor model itself, because only the geometrical moment of inertia is important for the dynamics. But the mass of the electric motor becomes relevant if it is parameterized, e.g. for driving dynamics or a flexible chassis.
  • The maximum possible generator torque from the Modelclass-specific Parameters is necessary for the control of the regenerative braking torque in the Brake Module and PT.Control.
