Recap of Open House Sweden 2024
On August 20, 2024, marking the 5th anniversary of IPG Automotive Sweden, the first ever Open House Sweden took place at World of Volvo in collaboration with Vector Sweden.
Did you miss Open House Sweden? Do you want to recall the highlights of the event?
This page gives you an overview.
Vector has a global presence with over 4,000 employees situated in more than 30 locations worldwide, offering manufacturers and suppliers a professional platform comprising software and hardware tools, as well as embedded software components and services for developing embedded systems. All united by a single mission: Simplifying the development of automotive electronics and software!
Managing Director of IPG Automotive Sweden, Mikael Skogsberg and President of Vector Sweden, Åsa Björnemark started the day by welcoming everyone. They introduced IPG Automotive and Vector, explaining the purpose of the event and the importance of our collaboration, setting the stage for an insightful day.
Session 1: Introduction/Demo of CarMaker/TruckMaker Introduction/Demo of CANoe ADAS
The first session started off with Mikael Skogsberg from IPG Automotive Sweden presenting an introduction to CarMaker and TruckMaker, giving an overview of the tools capabilities in virtual test driving.
Following this, Jens Buttgereit from Vector Informatik took the stage to introduce CANoe ADAS, highlighting how this versatile tool supports the development and testing of advanced driver assistance systems.
Both presentations provided a solid foundation for understanding the cutting-edge technologies driving the future of automotive innovation.
Session 2: Test Early, Fail Early. Scenario-based testing and verification of an ACC-controller, from SIL to HIL using TruckMaker and Vector Tools
What is a virtual ECU, and when to use Level 1 vs Level 3 vECUs? Is HIL testing still needed?
All this was covered in the second session, presented by David Andersson from IPG Automotive Sweden, Omer Manov and Samuel Winther from Vector Sweden. They demonstrated a newly developed, scalable tool chain between TruckMaker, CANoe and vVIRTUALtarget. All connected using Vector's open source middleware SilKit.
Session 3: Steering and Braking System Development at Volvo Cars
Integration HIL Embedded Software Testing in Virtual Vehicles by Polestar
The third session brought a deep dive into cutting-edge automotive system development and testing, featuring two keynote speeches.
Matthijs Klomp from Volvo Cars kicked things off with an exploration of the steering and braking system development at Volvo Cars. His presentation shed light on the sophisticated engineering processes behind ensuring safety and performance in modern vehicles.
Following this, Anton Albinsson and Meena Kumari from Polestar Performance took the stage to share their innovative work on integration HIL embedded software testing in virtual vehicles. They also introduced their newly installed, one-of-a-kind test system, a combined Steering- and Brake-in-the-Loop testbed, recently acquired from IPG Automotive. This presentation offered a fascinating glimpse into the future of vehicle testing.
Session 4: Simplify Vehicle Development by Enabling Democratization of Simulations
Shifting between SIL to HIL and HIL to SIL
The fourth and final session concluded the day with two presentations that explored the future of vehicle development and the seamless integration of simulation technologies.
Jan Stehle from IPG Automotive GmbH introduced IPG Automotive's Virtual Vehicle Development Tool Suite, VIRTO, and demonstrated how this innovative platform is making advanced simulations more accessible across the industry. His insights into making vehicle development accessible for everyone provided a compelling vision for the future of automotive engineering.
Next, Daniel Modrack from Vector Sweden discussed the critical role of transitioning between SIL and HIL testing within the DevOps framework, highlighting how these shifts enhance efficiency and streamline the development process.
Closing remarks & summary
Åsa Björnemark and Mikael Skogsberg wrapped up the day with a summary, expressing gratitude to all participants, presenters, exhibitors and organizers for making the event a success.
Exhibition & networking
The exhibition offered attendees an opportunity to engage directly with the technologies driving the next generation of automotive innovation, making it a central highlight of the event. Additionally, the personal exchange of challenges and experiences among industry colleagues played a crucial role, as participants took advantage of breaks to network and discuss topics of interest.
At the exhibition visitors could experience our dynamic driving simulator, stepping into the driver’s seat of a truck, getting the virtual driving experience in TruckMaker. For an even more immersive experience, guests could also ride along in the truck’s passenger seat using a VR headset.
With comfortable armchairs set up to encourage thoughtful conversations, the VIRTO booth provided a relaxed environment for exploring how VIRTO is revolutionizing the vehicle development processes. The collaboration with Vector was highlighted at a joint booth featuring the powerful integration of CANoe, TruckMaker and SilKit with ACC and HIL setup, showcasing the seamless interplay of these tools in advanced driver assistance system testing. This display also included a demonstration of ADAS function testing using TruckMaker in MIL.
Another notable display was Volvo Cars Wet Brake HIL, including both IPG Automotive and Vector products, this emphasized the precision and innovation behind our combined efforts.
