With Formula Student 2025 fast approaching, it is again time to ensure teams are ready to excel in the IMechE’s premier engineering competition. An integral part of preparation involves renewing and accessing licenses for essential tools including CarMaker, which empowers teams to design, simulate and validate their vehicles with cutting-edge precision, providing a competitive edge in the dynamic world of motorsport engineering.
Renewing licenses is more than just an administrative step. It is a gateway to powerful simulation environments and cloud-based processing that allows for extensive testing and optimization. This year, IPG Automotive UK, Ansys, AWS and CADFEM have joined forces to create a co-simulation specifically for FSAI teams to test ROS AV algorithms with a CarMaker vehicle model, track and environment as well as Ansys AVx high fidelity sensors. To ensure simulation processing power is no problem for teams, Amazon Web Services (AWS) have kindly agreed to fund a significant amount of cloud compute specifically for this CarMaker-AVx co-simulation pilot. In addition, IPG Automotive UK is also working with ZF to create a simulator using CarMaker Extended.
Teams can access these tools for free, ensuring that cost is not a barrier to innovation. These resources are instrumental in crafting the engineering solutions that will make their race cars stand out on the track and in the judging room. During the joint workshop hosted at Learn to Win 2025 on November 1, 2024, students got know more details on how to maximize these tools, including setup tips, best practices and ways to troubleshoot common issues, and also had the opportunity to engage with judges, sponsors and industry experts for invaluable feedback.
With over 100 teams expected to compete, FS 2025 is shaping up to be another exciting chapter in the competition’s rich history. Whether building the first car or refining an established design, renewing licenses and attending preparatory events will ensure teams are on the fast track to success.
