Next-gen testing unleashed: The new Xpack4 hybrid solution

We are excited to unveil the next evolution of our real-time simulation platform: The new Xpack4 is a future-ready solution built to meet the increasing demands of complex vehicle development and testing.

At the core of Xpack4 is a completely reengineered architecture, featuring the new enhanced backplane, which is based on the CompactPCI Serial standard. The system slot for the powerful Xeon-based 8-core single-board computer (SC9) and two peripheral slots are based on this standard. There are also five classic CompactPCI slots available. The SC9 with its computer cores forms the basis for parallelization, which is now increasingly supported by the CarMaker product family. This leap in processing performance (up to 1.8x single core speed increase) and parallelization capability enables users to efficiently run high-fidelity models like multi-tire simulations or advanced driver assistance systems.

In addition to the new Xpack4, an additional innovation is the enhanced real-time PC. Introduced for extremely computationally intensive applications, such as complex modeling calculations, the enhanced real-time PC is a computing platform based on server technology with 12 computer cores. An extension with a special bridge card enables the connection of the Xpack4, thus combining the properties of high computing power and precise IO interfaces in one system. This design enhances bandwidth, allows for modular expansion (e.g. Automotive Ethernet with MACsec), and aligns seamlessly with the enhanced real-time PC.

Key benefits include:

  • Increased CPU cores for parallel model execution
  • More available bandwidth for complex IO processing
  • Compact design, same dimensions as previous systems
  • Solid foundation for data-driven and scenario-based testing

The new hybrid version of Xpack4 is more than just a hardware update – it is a fundamental shift toward modular, high-bandwidth, high-performance real-time systems for the next generation of vehicle development and testing.

The new Xpack4 is a future-ready solution built to meet the increasing demands of complex vehicle development and testing.
