Welcome and introduction

President & CEO Steffen Schmidt opened Open House Germany 2024 with special news: IPG Automotive has a new corporate design. Afterwards, he took the participants on a short time-traveling journey to explore the last 40 years of company history and to celebrate the company anniversary.

Following this, CTO at IPG Automotive Dr. Andreas Höfer illustrated how CarMaker supports AI and conventional software processes on the path towards the vehicle of the future in his introduction.

Keynote and sessions

Keynote from Timo Schöning (Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center GmbH): The Ioniq 5 N – Breaking Boundaries and Bringing Emotions to the Road – How Software shaped Hyundai's First High Performance EV

In his keynote Timo Schöning, Head of Department – Chassis, gave the audience insights into the development of software-defined vehicles focusing on high performance electric vehicles. Using the example of the Ioniq 5 N, he presented how Hyundai leveraged virtual vehicle development to overcome boundaries, shape the unique character of the vehicle and bring all the emotions related to a car onto the road.

Session 1: Transformation of Workflows – from Test Track to Cloud Nine

This year, after the official introduction of the Virtual Vehicle Development Tool Suite VIRTO at Open House Germany 2023, Martin Elbs, Jan Stehle and Adrian Schöllhorn demonstrated solution approaches for future vehicle testing during development. Based on the conventional automobile, they presented four exemplary processes and using VIRTO to transform them. In this way, participants could experience live how digital workflows enable to map workflows step by step.

Session 2: Scenario-Based Real-Time Testing with CarMaker/TruckMaker and AV-in-the-Loop

Automated driving has caused a strong shift in technology development towards software, and it thus increasingly influences methods and processes. During the second session, Josef Henning, Verena Wolf and Nitesh Kattathar presented a variety of options that CarMaker and TruckMaker offer for scenario-based testing of level 3+ functions to master the challenges of software-defined vehicles.

Session 3: CarMaker in a Data-Driven Development Workflow

In the third session of Open House Germany, Mark Unbescheiden, Fabrizio Savarino and Martin Herrmann highlighted different application possibilities of CarMaker in the data-driven development flow for AV stacks in autonomous vehicles. In addition to the procedural generation and variation of scenarios on a large scale, they also provided a first insight into the area Research & Innovation at IPG Automotive focusing on the subject of synthetic data generation for machine learning.

Trade exhibition and networking

Time traveling journey through the last 40 years

The special exhibition “40 Years of Innovation” in our new corporate design invited participants on a journey through time to discover the past 40 years. In addition to corporate history milestones of IPG Automotive, the exhibition also included events of the world history from the respective decades. Moreover, original Hardware from IPG Automotive’s past was on display, such as the first ESC HIL test bench.

Product innovations and live demonstrations

Besides the special exhibition, the accompanying trade exhibition provided space for our numerous partners and customers to showcase product novelties and innovative solutions from their own product portfolio. Alongside the driving simulators and live demonstrations, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N was a special highlight that visitors were able to experience live after hearing about it in the keynote.

At the IPG Automotive product exhibition, we presented our broad range of software and hardware solutions. From the latest CarMaker release to AV-in-the-Loop and VIRTO to our driving simulator in VR environments, visitors were able to experience our entire product portfolio live.

Personal exchange and networking on site

The personal exchange at our events is a matter very close to our hearts. This is why there is always ample time for networking and personal exchange at Open House. During the breaks and at the get-together in the exhibition area at the end of the day, participants had the opportunity to network and discuss topics of interest.
