IPG Automotive supports OpenSCENARIO and OpenDRIVE and actively contributes to the further development of standards for simulation in ASAM committees.
The international standardization organization ASAM (Association for Standardization of Automation and Measuring Systems) coordinates the development of technical standards. They are developed by project groups in which experts of the member companies work together. The goal of ASAM is to link all tools of a development process chain to enable continuous data exchange.
OpenSCENARIO is part of the ASAM simulation standards that focus on simulation data for the automotive field. It describes driving maneuvers and dynamic environment situations. Scenario-based testing has been the main approach of simulation with CarMaker for many years. Now this has been extended to ensure the processing of OpenSCENARIO data in CarMaker. A converter is available for the transfer of OpenSCENARIO 1.x data, OpenSCENARIO 2.0 is supported via integration of a partner software.
The standard OpenDRIVE defines a data model for the highly precise, logical description of road networks. It is used for the functional validation of driving situations and maneuvers and is applied in vehicle as well as traffic simulation. As part of the ASAM committees, IPG Automotive has actively participated in the development of OpenDRIVE and has been providing support for utilization in combination with CarMaker since 2019.
