Recap of Open House UK 2024
On September 24, 2024, IPG Automotive UK successfully hosted their fifth Open House UK at the British Motor Museum in Warwickshire. The event gathered industry experts from automotive manufacturing, commercial vehicles and virtual vehicle simulation from all over the UK.
Managing Director of IPG Automotive Elliot Hemes started the day with an overview of 40 years of innovation from IPG Automotive GmbH. After explaining the outline of the agenda, he introduced the keynote speaker, David Webb, Head of Innovation at the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, part of the Department for Transport. The speech ‘Benefits and Pitfalls of Simulation and Its Influence on the Regulatory Framework in the Future’ provided a great insight into future plans for self-driving vehicles and explained the new safety framework required within the UK.
Session 1: Optimizing MiL/SiL Models Used in DiL Applications & Benefits of Vehicle Dynamics Models in ADAS Applications
Mark Thommyppillai of Ansible Motion and Tim Sherrington of IPG Automotive UK delivered a shared presentation explaining the project they have worked on together to optimize MiL/SiL models used in DiL applications.
Session 2: Insights into CarMaker new releases and VIRTO updates from IPG Automotive UK
In the first half of this session Jose Nevado, Lead Application Engineer, highlighted the many new CarMaker releases and different application possibilities, followed by an overview of what is to come with CarMaker 14.0.
David Barry, Lead Developer, delivered an introduction and update to VIRTO including the future roadmap of what’s new in 2024.
Session 3: Insight into the SCALE and CCAV Projects
Rav Babbra from dRISK presented an overview on the CCAV and SCALE project. The project will operate a fleet of three self-driving vehicles, moving passengers between Birmingham International rail station and Birmingham Business Park.
Session 4: AgriSI Platform and Motorcycle OneBoxVil Projects
Soluzioni Ingegneria’s Claudio Maroni highlighted the cutting-edge products AgriSI – revolutionizing agricultural simulation, EVE converting from MSC ADAMS to CarMaker, and ONEBOXVIL a game changer in motorcycle dynamics. These solutions are transforming industries and pushing the boundaries of engineering innovation.
Session 5: Testing Methodology – Front Loading BEV Development from Road to Rigs
Michael Kwan Ho Lee and Sulabh Dhingra from Jaguar Landrover presented on their award winning and now implemented innovation in business and process functions “Front Loading BEV Development from Road to Rigs’.
Session 6: EV Powertrain and Thermal Control System Models Integrated with CarMaker & TruckMaker
Thomas Farahar delivered the presentation from SHERPA Engineering which explained how they have coupled CarMaker to BEV digital twins and integrated thermal control system models.
Session 7: ZF at Formula Student 2024 – How CarMaker Is Used for Validating FSAI Competition Entries
Adam Heenan, Technology Group Leader at ZF Engineering provided an insight into the Formula Student competition and the challenges teams face getting their vehicles to move and navigate reliably, and how CarMaker supports their processes.
We displayed IPG Automotive’s latest features and innovative solutions, along with seven partner companies: Agility 3, Ansible Motion, HORIBA MIRA, OXTS, Soluzioni Ingegneria, STÄHLE and Synopsys. Driving simulators were a popular addition with individual demonstrations optimizing simulation technology. The exhibition gallery created a vibrant and enjoyable experience for all who attended and a fantastic opportunity to network and promote innovation.
