IPG Automotive is proud to be sponsoring an amazing racing team from the University of Stuttgart in Germany.
GreenTeam Uni Stuttgart is a student organization that designs, builds and tests fully-electric racing cars for the Formula Student Electric competition. Founded in 2009, the team includes students from many different fields: mechanical and electrical, engineering, business, administration, humanities and communication studies.
True to their motto – COMPLETE, FINISH, WIN – they have been building one of the best Formula Student racing cars every season for the past 16 years and have won multiple Formula Student trophies.
Last year they were extremely successful by setting a new Guinness World Record! "Mission World Record" was completed last October and the GreenTeam could not have been happier to finally receive the official confirmation that they are the record holder for the fastest accelerating electric car.
In 1.461 seconds, their self-developed car E0711-11 EVO accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h!
So who knows what this year will bring! We provided the team with six additional CarMaker licenses ensuring all team members can use our software for their torque vectoring function. However, the rules of Formula Student restrict the overall power of the race car. In total their four wheel-hub motors provide more power than is allowed. Therefore, they use CarMaker to find the best power level for each motor and each driving condition allowing the team to adhere to the rules.
Pascal Piecha, our Global Education & University Program Manager, visited their facilities and gained some great insights on how well the team collaborates and uses CarMaker to help them improve continuously.
The whole team is working hard on this year's car, the E0711-13, and we wish them every success this season!
