Autonomous driving – this vision of the future is clear but there are still many unanswered questions. The testing area for autonomous driving in Karlsruhe will soon serve to test how automated vehicles can optimally navigate in today’s traffic. At Neothinking #5: Smart Mobility, Nicolas Lutterbach of the Karlsruhe Transport Authority KVV and Martin Elbs of IPG Automotive presented the testing area and explained which challenges can be met in its context. Our key statement: There is a good reason for calling it testing area instead of experimental area – after all, the vehicle functions are supposed to work as well as possible before they are incorporated into the whole vehicle. Virtual test driving makes this possible by enabling you to test your systems early on in the virtual world.
