Scenario-based testing with an automated toolchain

In cooperation with iMAR Navigation, we offer a powerful and holistic toolchain for scenario-based testing to design more cost- and time-efficient processes in vehicle development.

Automotive testing becomes more and more complex. The number of test cases increases and the test requirements and guidelines are evolving. Rather than performing simple tests with individual objects, scenario-based testing offers the possibility to test with multiple interacting participants. To close the gap between simulation and proving ground tests, a holistic toolchain combining both approaches was jointly developed. It enables a fundamental optimization of test runs, which helps reducing errors, making the most of the time on the proving ground and saving time and costs in general.

The toolchain encompasses scenario planning, test runs with different parameters of any NCAP tests as well as complex scenarios in our simulation software CarMaker. Configured scenarios and test runs are directly transmitted to the iARGUS-CMD software of iMAR’s Proving Ground Control Center. From here, all dynamic and static test objects are controlled, e.g. the vehicle under tests, traffic simulation vehicles, soft crash targets or traffic lights.

The exchange of the scenario description between the tools is based on iSCAML – the Scenario Advanced Meta Language from iMAR Navigation which is part of the future ISO 22133-1 standard. An integrated OpenX to iSCAML converter enables the import of OpenScenario files. Standardized interfaces can transfer the test data to any data analysis software after test execution and feed them back into simulation and/or control center software.

This new toolchain allows to prepare and carry out vehicle tests much more effectively, to validate simulation results and to be compliant with the current standardizations like AFGBV, ISO 22133 or ASAM.
